The "Phoenix", is 600 years old and all that remains of a great medieval hall, perhaps used as a dwelling for monks from the old Faversham Abbey. In 1703 it was mentioned in the will of John Icken as two tenements with gardens.

FAVERSHAM PUB LANDS TV's SHAUN WILLIAMSON AS CHARITY BALL PATRON.

A FAVERSHAM pub is launching an annual charity ball - with a helping hand from TV's Shaun Williamson.

Shaun Williamson

The star, who is best known for playing Barry in Eastenders, has agreed to be the patron of the event, run by the "Phoenix Tavern" in Abbey Street.

The masked ball will take place at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School on Saturday, October 26, raising money for the Kent Air Ambulance.

Landlord David Selves said: "I'm delighted that Shaun Williamson has agreed to be Patron of this year's Ball.

"I have always believed that successful businesses have a role to play in society and if they are a small business such as us then that is in their local community. It is a philosophy that I have applied to all the enterprises that I been involved with over the last 40 years.

"Turning a pub round from bust to probably the busiest independent pub in town in the current economic client has not been easy and the team here have done it, but it would not be possible without the support of our customers.

"Everybody loves a good party and the chance to dress up, so I thought we'd set up a charity ball and use the school down the road for the venue so that we are putting some money back into the local community as well."

Anyone interested in being involved to help raise funds for the Kent Air Ambulance should contact David Selves on 01795 591462 or office@thephoenixtavernfaversham.co.uk.
