RAMSGATE BOROUGH BENCH. APPLICATION.
On behalf of Mr. A Knight, landlord of "Sanger’s Restaurant," Mr. Emery
applied for an extension of time for half an-hour for the period of one
month. The object of the extension was to enable the artistes appearing
in plays at the Amphitheatre to obtain refreshment at the conclusion of
the entertainment, which, Mr, Emery pointed out, usually lasted until
eleven o'clock. The privilege, if granted, would only be enjoyed by
those taking part in the performance. The justices deliberated for some
time, at the conclusion of which they announced that they did not see
their way clear to grant the application for a month’s extension, and it
was accordingly refused.
Mr. Emery then asked the Bench if they would consent to allow Mr. Knight
to serve the theatrical performers until 11.30 each evening during the
present week. This the justices agreed to, the Chairman remarking that
it must not be considered that the application was one which could be
renewed from time to time.

From an email received 29 December 2018. We've found a beautiful glass
bottle up north in Bedale, North Yorkshire. It's smooth, quite heavy and
seems shaped to fit the palm of your hand rather like a hip flask. It's
engraved with raised writing which says A. Knight Sangers Ramsgate. On
the base it has a raised underlined number and we think it says 079 or
something like.
We were wondering if this may have belonged to the restaurant or to
Mr Knight or if you could shed any light on it.
Thanks
Tracey Cavinder.
