Information below taken from their web site:-
A warm welcome to 'The Thirty-Nine Steps Alehouse'. We are a micropub based in the beautiful Kent seaside town of Broadstairs on the Isle of Thanet. We serve an interesting and diverse range of quality real ales from all over Britain - throwing the net as far and as wide as possible. Award winning ales from well known breweries rub shoulders with special 'one-offs' from tiny microbreweries. We also serve a range of traditional real ciders and a selection of wines and soft drinks. The ales are kept behind glass in a temperature controlled chiller cabinet, ensuring they reach the customer in perfect condition. The Alehouse takes its name from the novel of the same title, written by John Buchan in Broadstairs in 1915. It first introduces his readers to his famous adventuring hero Richard Hannay. The name 'The Thirty-Nine Steps' is said to have originated from the author's daughter counting the 78 wooden steps leading to the beach from the cliff top on the North Foreland, by the house where John Buchan was staying. Buchan halved the number for a catchier title. The original steps were later replaced by 105 concrete ones and are still there today.
On the 5th May 2017 the premises moved itself up the street to number 11-13 Charlotte Street to some bigger and better premises where they are hoping to install what they wish to call the "Broadstairs Town Brewery" in the basement.
