ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
On Saturday morning a most determined attempt at suicide was committed
by John Camfleld of this town, who cut his throat very severely with a
razor in the "Wellington" Mews stables. The wound was not sufficient to
cause death at once, and he was led home by a man named Buckley. Dr.
Austen was speedily in attendance but from the dangerous nature of the
injuries inflicted, but little hopes are entertained of his recovery.

LOOKING AROUND RAMSGATE.
There is little doubt about it at all. For nearly two centuries Meeting
Street has sat snugly at the said of High Street and watched the life
and bustle of the town passing down the main thoroughfare.
Walk through Meeting Street to-day and how quiet and peaceful it is,
like one of those innumerable little courts which one discoveries in the
midst of London's traffic. And the man who first decided to call it
Meeting Street did an appropriate thing as far as we are concerned, for
every Friday afternoon Ramsgate's old people meet here for their weekly
chat.
You will see them this afternoon just after two o'clock on their way to
the Forester's Hall headquarters of the local Old Age Pensioners
Association, talking happily of their memories as they stroll through
Meeting Street, one of the oldest inland roads in the town.
The original name Meeting House Lane, appeared first in the 1790 era in
the official records and in those days, you must remember, the
"Wellington Hotel" on the corner site was a popular rendezvous for the
notables and the travellers.
In fact, where walk the pensioners of to-day, once strolled the Duke of
Wellington, among the ostlers and the coaches of the travellers of the
day. So, ay least, legend would dictate.
