Earliest reference found so far is in the Wingham Division Ale Licence list, which shows the "Red Lion," Woodnesborough, to be re-licensed for the sum of 8 shillings in 1740 indicating that the pub was present before 1740.

Michael Mirams has kindly sorted out the confusion here, informing me that Each End is actually in the parish of Woodnesborough.

ASH FRIENDLY SOCIETY

Notice is hereby given, That the General Annual Meeting of this Society will be holden at the Sign of the “Red Lyon” at Each-end, on Thursday next, the 7th inst. July, when and where the Members are desired to attend by Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon, to proceed to Ash Church, to hear Sermon preached on the Occasion. Dinner will be ready at One o'Clock.

N.B. And found Person under the Age of 35 Years, who is desirous of becoming a Member, may be admitted on Payment of One Guinea Entrance.
