A new licence was applied for and received by John Forrest in September 1865 after the pub had been renamed the "Seagull" for a few years between 1857 and 1865.

From the Deal, Walmer, and Sandwich Mercury, 9 October, 1869. 1d.

TRANSFER

Mr. Omer attended for the purpose of having the license of the "Ship," public-house, Middle Street, which had been endorsed in his name on the previous Thursday, upon the application of the outgoing tenant, Mr. John Forrest, transferred to him, but the rate-collector, Mr. John Brown, informed the Bench that there were rates to the amount of £2 2s. 2d. owing by the former defendant, and that Mr. Omar had a bill of sale on furniture. He had taken all possible means he could without loss to his employer to recover the money, but had failed.

The Magistrates considered that as Mr. Omer had a bill of sale upon his furniture, he should pay the rates, but this he for some time objected to do, on the ground that the collector could have enforced payment from Mr. Forrest, who had a reversionary right in other property. Ultimately, however, Mr. Omer undertook to see the rates in question paid, and the license was accordingly transferred.

From the Deal, Walmer, and Sandwich Mercury, 15 July, 1871. 1d.

F. CHAPMAN v. THOMAS NORRIS

This was to recover 2s. 8d., for damage done to a window blind. Plaintiff is a publican, and defendant a boatman.

Mrs. Chapmen said that Norris had fallen through the wire blind whilst dancing in her house. He promised to pay the amount of damage, but he had not done so, hence these proceedings.

Defendant, in reply, said that they were all drunk together - he meant all in the house - and he thought they ought to club round and pay between them; he was willing to pay his part.

His Honour found for plaintiff, and ordered defendant to pay the amount claimed.

From the Deal, Walmer, and Sandwich Mercury, 4 January, 1873. 1d.

PUBLICANS' APPLICATION

Upon the application of Mrs. Chapman, the landlady of the "Ship Inn," Middle Street, the Magistrates gave permission to remain open till 1 o'clock o the following (Friday) morning.

From the Thanet Advertiser, 3 July 1931.
