Deal

This one certainly not a public house, but licensed to sell intoxicating liquor anyway. Not sure that is was good idea considering the nature of the venue, but there you go.

I believe this was once next to the "Walmer Castle" not at number 2 South Street, but the Deal Licensing Records dated 4 April 1876 show that an application for a wine license was granted to the "Deal and Walmer Skating Rink."

Deal Licensing Register 4 April 1876 application for wine licence granted.

Deal Licensing Register 1877 stated that the rink was licensed upon condition that the premises remain as they are whilst licensed. Supplied by Hills and Sons brewers.

Deal Licensing Register 1899 - "Walmer Castle" late Deal and Walmer Skating Rink.

It is referred to this as late as 1908 by Pikes directory.

From the Deal, Walmer, and Sandwich Mercury, 30 June, 1900. 1d.

LICENSING

Mr. A Abrahams applied for a license for music and dancing for the skating rink.

The magistrates' Clerk said that the Bench could only grant a temporary license for 14 days at those sessions, and that a permanent license could only be granted at the Brewster Sessions, or at the Petty Sessions after due notice had been given.

A temporary license was granted.

The "Walmer Castle" has been licensed on its own merit since at least 1828.
