PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Barry Smith and Paul Skelton

Earliest 1823-

(Name from)

Three Horse Shoes

Latest 1823+

(Name to)

168 London Road

Buckland

Dover

According to Barry Smith's research the "Three Horse Shoes" only had that name to around 1839 and also that at one time it was also called the "Rose Inn". He says that some time previous to 1839 it changed name to the well-known pub we know today, called the "Bull". However, I have found the "Bull" in Pigot's directory in 1823 in Buckland, so I believe to have predated his original research.

Further research has identified this one as early as 1779 when it was for sale.

Kentish Gazette, 17 November, 1779.
