I am not sure where I got this information from now, but apparently a "Town Arms", closed in 1874 but did not provide us with an address. We know it cannot be the "Town Arms" in Bridge Street as the Post Office Directory give a Mrs Sarah Downs as licensee of this establishment the same year, and that pub continued till 1963.

The earliest "Town Arms" was to be found in St. James' Street.

Hopefully the information will come to light again and when it does I will reference it properly.
