Somewhere along the frontage to the river

Sandwich

According to research and an article written by David G. Collyer, the frontage of the "Turkicooke" used to stand somewhere along the river in Sandwich around 1640s.

He goes on to say:- "In 1644 a new arrival from the Continent was staying at the inn, when he was taken ill. Suffering from the bubonic plague, his symptoms were not recognised.

"Eventually more than a thousand died in the town, and local residents took to living in the local countryside until the scourge eventually subsided."

The effects caused plague tents to be erected, and drove many citizens out of the town. The "Turkicocke" disappears from records soon after.
