Douglass Welby, author of "Kentish Village of River", mentions a "Vine" situated at 48-50 River Street. I believe this to be the wrong numbers as 50 would be seen to the left of the buildings above and isn't connected together.

The following licensee list only stated beer-house in River, so could apply to the "Pear Tree" instead of this house.

From the Dover Express and East Kent Intelligencer, 2 March, 1877. Price 1d.

SHORT WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

George Dawn, publican and coal merchant, River, for having a light weighing machine on his premises was fined £1 and 9s. costs.

Again this could refer to the "Pear Tree."
