South Eastern Gazette, Tuesday 15th September 1857.

Sittingbourne. Petty sessions, September 7th.

(Before the Rev. J. Poore, T. Twopenny and W. Bland, Esq.)

William Payne, of the "British Queen" beer house, was convicted for having his house open for the sale of beer during divine services, and this being the third time, he was fined £5.

I am informed by local Brian Birch that the pub changed name to the "Long Hop"  in about the year 2000.
