In 1869-70 the pub was part of a consortium who were advertising their
goods of selling tea in response to grocers' selling beer and wine. (Click

PETHAM ACCIDENT.
Mr. Webb, landlord of the "Duke’s Head," met with an accident as he was
going to his house from Kenfield Park on the day of the cricket match.
In getting over a stile at the end of the Park he broke a small bone in
his hip, and had to remain there until the arrival of some persons who
had been to witness the match, and who ultimately procured a cart to
convey him home, where medical aid was obtained.

I am informed that the pub sadly closed around about the year 2000.
