Major York

Closed 2005

7-11 Langton Road

Originally known as the "Brokers Arms" the pub changed name, date unknown.

This was a 16th century coaching inn, which is famous for its traditional ales, and was under ownership of the "Spa Hotel" situated opposite. It was named after Major Martin Yorke who bought the "Spa Hotel" in 1772, after serving under Lord Clive of India and making his fortune with the East India Company.

After closing, again date unknown it reopened again in 2002 but now (2018) it has been closed for some years.

Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
