The "Brokers Arms" was on the corner of Major York's Road and Langton Road opposite the "Spa Hotel" was a 16th century coaching inn. It changed name to the "Major York" pub, closed for a time and  reopened in 2002 it was famous for its traditional ales, was at one time under ownership of the "Spa Hotel."

I am informed by David Boulding that it was originally "Petronella’s Tea House," it then became the the "Alpine Rose", next the "Major Yorke’s" and latterly the "Brokers Arms." It closed after Peter Chipchase the owner died watching 9/11 happening more or less live on the TV in the bar. A sad loss as it was a great pub and he was a great landlord.
