PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1861-

White Horse

Latest 1930+

Dean Street

East Farleigh

Former White Horse

The above image from Google maps, 2013, shows a house called White Horse Cottage, and I am assuming it was formerly the pub of the same name, but I am not sure with this one. Local knowledge needed.

This was described as a beer shop in the 1861 census.

I am informed that the owners in the 1930's stated that they had removed an old fireplace to find that there was about five fireplaces on top of each other, which, when removed, revealed the original inglenook which is still there today.

The building gained a Grade II listing on 30 July 1951 and is now a private residence.

From an email received 16 November 2018.

The cottage was never a pub it was an oast house, the roundel is still visible in the back.

Opposite was the "White Lion Inn." My father was landlord for Fremlins brewery 1954 1957 Maidstone museum has photographs going back to the mid 1800' showing the name as the "White Lion."

Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
