Not to be confused with the "Prince Alfred" (They are about 2 miles apart).

The building was erected in 1866 by G F Weber who puts in a manager James Green. In its elevated position it was a prominent "New Light" as seen from the river and was nicknamed with this name.

I believe the pub closed on 10 February 2009.

 Planning granted for retail unit (Class A1) at ground floor and 5 x 1 bed and 2 x 2 bed apartments above - work carried out although A1 unit vacant (2019).
