The building started life as Mill House Farm on the Archbishops palace estate, and has served a variety of uses over time including tea rooms, and a shop before finally being opened as a pub somewhere between the 1960's and 1970's.

The original name was the "Minstrel" and it specialised in folk nights and they used to still have to old instruments hung from the upstairs area ceiling. Local resident Sam Wittwer says his mother can remember snail racing when she went there in her youth.

For some reason they don't seem to know whether this is "Ye Olde Thirsty Pig" "Olde Thirsty Pig" or just the "Thirsty Pig" as I believe they add and remove the Ye and Olde every time it gets a paint job.
