The Kentish Mercury reported this only held a beer license in 1908.

Alfred John Hornsey (who was married to Annie Punter Akers) was born in 1828 in Woolwich to William Hornsey and Elizabeth Robinson Hornsey. His siblings were William Thomas (who married Ellen Hannaway), Edward Henry (who married Martha Matilda Cooper), Elizabeth Ruth (who married James Wale), George Frederick (who married Mary Ann Burnett), Emma Susan and Eliza Sarah (who married Thomas Hobday). Alfred, his brothers and his father were Waterman. Alfred ran several pubs (The "Three Crowns" and the "Carpenter's Arms" and he also ran a beer outlet called the "Duke of Edinburgh" at 79 Beresford Street for almost 30 years.
