The premises was opened in 1836, but was closed for business in 1919, and the building finally demolished in 1965 when the area was redeveloped.

Above plaque says the following:- TOWN CENTRE DWELLINGS. On the site of this car park once stood approximately 200 residential dwellings, public houses, places of worship and schools dating from the mid 19th century. The area was cleared in the mid 1960s as part of the town centre redevelopment. This footpath follows the original line of Clarence Street and listed below are landmarks taken from an OS map dated 1865. North Street, South Street, Peppercroft Street, Upper Milton British School. Zion Chapel. Milton hall, "Kings Arms Ph," "Prince Regent PH," "Victory PH," "Jolly Sailor PH," and the "Star Hotel." Car park refurbishment funded by Gravesham Borough Council and Department for Communities and Local Government. Above photo showing the area today (2013.) Windmill Hill is in the background.
