The licenses of the "Lord Nelson," in Brompton and the "Steam Engine" in Gillingham were surrendered to allow this one to open, hence the name, which cryptically references the two. Built in 1935, a history. The inn sign shows a cut out probably depicting Lord Nelson with his telescope and an early road steam kettle. Looking at the sketch from 1972, the entrance seems to be in a different location to now. Originally a Fremlins tied house, but these were taken over by Whitbread in 1967.
