Built in 1811 when Thomas Bowles, who had the "Sun and Piehouse"  at what is now Echo Square, moved here. The Upton family were licensees for over 100 years.

The building was demolished around 1970 to make way for road widening and the Trustee Savings Bank.

South Eastern Gazette, Tuesday 29 March 1864.

A boy killed.

On Wednesday morning a lad, about 16 years of age, fell from the masthead of a ship, lying off the Roshervale pier, and died from the injuries received. On Thursday and inquest was held on the body at the "Old Sun" public house, when a verdict of "Accidentally killed" was returned.

Project 2014 has been started to try and identify all the pubs that are and have ever been open in Kent. I have just started to map out the pubs that exist or existed in Gravesend, but need local knowledge and photographs, old and current if you have any.

As the information is found or sent to me, including photographs, it will be shown here.

Thanks for your co-operation. Every email is answered and all information referenced to the supplier.

This page will be updated as soon as further information is found.
