12 Rainham Road / 138 Chatham Hill Chatham https://whatpub.com/boatswain-call
The premises was operating under a Full License by 1872 and was owned by Edward Winch of Chatham. It is suggested that prior to this it was operating under the name of the "South Foreland" and in 1851 was just a beer-house. However, I have also been told that this pub didn't get its license till 1872 when the "Boatswain and Call" in Upnor closed and had both it's license and name transferred to this building. Further research need to substantiate the above. The original address for this pub was listed as 138 Chatham Hill. I do not know the area so don't know whether the location changed or just the area renamed. Local knowledge needed here please. Not sure yet of the full name of Niel or indeed the years he was at the pub, but local Brian Woodger says he ran it as an Irish theme pub. The pub closed in 2006 and has was purchased by a local plumbing company for conversions into showrooms.
