The "Golden Eagle" was built about 120 years ago and was originally known as The "First And Last." The pub, which commands breathtaking views across the Medway Valley towards West Malling and Tonbridge, was owned by Whitbread until 1977 after which it became the "Tudor Rose." It is owned in its current guise as The "Golden Eagle" by John and Kathy Maynard who took over in 2004 from Vince Forde, who retired after 18 years at the helm. However, chefs Margaret and Ian, creators of the pubs popular Malaysian menu and with over 25 years experience between them, are retained so customers can continue to enjoy the delicious oriental cuisine which has made this establishment a local favourite.

The "Golden Eagle" prides itself on its quality food and service and is mentioned in the Egon Ronay Guide and the AA Good Pub Guide. It has continually won Environmental Health awards from 1988 to the present day.

The pub is now closed and was on the market in July 2013 for an extension and conversion to four houses on the edge of the village.

From an email received 4 April 2018.

Golden Eagle, Burham.

I first knew the pub in the early to mid 1980s when it was run by Eddie "The Gay Malay" and his business partner although, (as far as I'm aware not his lover) as Eddie was reputedly going out with a deputy governor at Maidstone prison. Eddie had a Rolls Royce that he would drive at not much more than a walking pace between Burham & Maidstone so as not to scratch the paintwork. I understand that it was this pair that started the Malaysian menu which was taken on by Chris & Chiu (possibly Blackwell). They moved to Satis House in Yoxford, Suffolk.

Simon Hingley.

Project 2014 has been started to try and identify all the pubs that are and have ever been open in Kent. I have just added this pub to that list but your help is definitely needed regarding it's history.

As the information is found or sent to me, including photographs, it will be shown here.

Thanks for your co-operation.
