Above photo, circa 1920, showing a Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes Lodge group photo taken outside the "Greyhound" pub in Short Street, Sheerness. The pub had a very fine fascia sign with a low relief greyhound and 'Budden & Biggs Brewery'. Kindly sent by Peter Moynihan.

South Kent Gazette, Friday 15 July 1955.

Licence Transfers.

A protection order in respect of the "Waterman's Arms," Milton, from Lesley Thomas Mudd, a representative of the brewers, to John Maxwell Roberts, was granted at Sheerness Magistrates Court on Monday. The Bench also agreed to the transfer of the "Greyhound," Sheerness from George Thomas Ralph to Lesley Thomas Mudd.

From an email received 2 December 2016.

My family lived on Short St, there was a wonderful old pub down the street called "The Greyhound" the outside was all covered in large coloured ceramic tiles including the outlines of the aforementioned dog. I believe it closed in the early sixties and was pulled down during some urban renewal project. Many times as a child I watched the sailors laughing and joking around inside, they would give me sixpence to fetch them some fish and chips from around the corner. Sure wish I had a photo to share.

Brian.

I have reference to another "Greyhound" listed in Minster in the 1881 census.

Ind Coope & Co Ltd purchased the pub from Budden & Biggs Brewery Ltd by conveyance and assignment dated 23 March 1931. The pub held a beer only license.
