The Licensing Records of 1872 stated the premises held a Beer License and was owned by William Medhurst.

The building apparently burnt down previous to 1876.

From the Rochester and Chatham Journal and Mid-Kent Advertiser, Saturday, September 2, 1876.

The Olive Branch.

Mr. Hayward next asked that the indoor beer licence of the "Prince of Wales," High Street, Chatham (recently burnt down), might be transferred to the "Olive Branch," in East Street, Chatham, which has at present only and outdoor licence. He said there would be a double advantage in the transfer, as there were many licences in the High Street, and one was wanted in the neighbourhood of the "Olive Branch." The application was made at the adjourned session last year, but that the Rev Marsham said it would be better that it should come before the original sessions. At present the occupier of the "Olive Branch" was in the difficulty of not being able to serve even his lodgers.

Mr. Prall opposed on behalf of the "Compasses" and said there were one public house and five beer houses in the vicinity.

The application was refused.
