Death of popular Ramsgate publican.

POPULAR licensee of the "Horse and Groom" public house, Mr. Robert Cornell died this week.

Mr. Cornell, who was 48, became ill on Tuesday. He was taken to Margate Hospital but died later the same day.

With his wife Edna. Mr. Cornell had run the busy pub in Charlotte Court, Ramsgate since December and will be sadly missed by the 'regulars'.

The couple were licensed of the "Rose of Denmark," in Charlton, for 14 years before moving to Ramsgate to take over the "Horse and Groom" from Bert and Zena Higgs.

LONDON-BORN.

Mr. Cornell's aim was to make the pub "one of the most popular in the town" and he certainly did that. A wide range of lunch time snacks improved trade and his cheerful presence behind the bar pulled in more customers.

London-born Mr. Cornell trained as an engineer, but after Army service sought a new career. because of their love of meeting people, he and Edna, now 52, went into the licensing trade about 20 years ago.
