Wheatsheaf

Above photo, date unknown, showing the "Wheatsheaf" which was on the corner of Claremont Place and Bryant Street.

The Licensing Records of 1872 stated the premises held a Beer License and was owned by Thomas Lidden of Star Hill, Rochester.

I believe the area had recently been renovated and previous to 1872 the pub was called the "Balaclava."

A street directory of 1955 gave the address of 5-7 Claremont Place and the pub name of "Masons." Not sure if this is correct or not as there was a "Masons Arms" addressed at 42 Ordnance Street the same year.
