CITY PETTY SESSIONS.

Wednesday. (Before the Mayor, Capt. Burton, and E. R. Coles, G. Essell, and G. Drawbridge, Esqrs.)

A wretched looking object, whose head was swathed in a flannel bandage, and who gave the name of Ellen Granger, was brought up on a charge of being found in a state of insensibility at the "Black Boy" public-house on the previous night.

The landlord said, as he was about to close his house at twelve o’clock, he found the woman in the parlour quite insensible, and as he did not like to turn her into the streets at that hour he called a policeman and gave her into custody.

The woman said she was anxious to go to Gravesend, and there being no charge against her, she was discharged, the Mayor kindly giving her a shilling to pay her fare to Gravesend.

CITY PETTY SESSIONS.

Wednesday. (Before the Mayor, Captain Burton, S. Steele, E. R. Coles, and W. Munclark, Esqrs.)

Alexander Ware and Lewis Kemp were charged with felony. James Richardson, the landlord of the "Black Boy" public-house stated that the prisoners entered his house on Sunday night last, at about eleven o'clock, and after remaining in the tap-room about a minute they turned round and went out again. The prisoner Kemp appearing to be embarrassed, prosecutor thought there was something wrong, and on examining the tap-room missed a quart pot, which he felt satisfied the prisoners had stolen, upon which he gave information to McGeorge, the constable, who succeeded in apprehending them with the quart pot in their possession. The value of the pot was 1s. 6d. Prosecutor said he had lost three quart pots, and several pints since he had the house.

Police-constable McGeorge apprehended the two prisoners in the tap-room of the "Maidstone Arms" public-house, Crow-lane, with the pot, which they were drinking from. The prisoner Ware admitted that he had taken the pot, but he was so drunk that he did not know what he was doing.

Committed for trial.

Southeastern Gazette, 8 March 1853.

ROCHESTER QUARTER SESSIONS.

The two prisoners entered prosecutor's house at eleven o’clock on Sunday night, and without partaking of any liquor immediately left the tap-room. The landlord’s suspicions being thereby aroused, he examined the room and missed the pot, and on giving information to the police. McGeorge succeeded in apprehending the prisoners in a low beer-house, with the pot in their possession, which they were drinking out of at the time. The prisoners, on being taken into custody, said they took it out of a "spree," and intended to take it back again.
