PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1825-

(Name from)

County Hotel

Latest 1828+

(Name to)

High Street

Rochester

The only reference I have found so far for this pub is in the Pigot's Directory of 1828.

The directory classed this under Inns.

I also have seen reference to the "County Hotel" being noted as "late the "King's Head" in a 27 May 1825. Perhaps it changed name for a few years around this period.

From the Morning Post, Friday 27 May, 1825.

COUNTY HOTEL. ROCHESTER.

POSTING at 1s. 3d. per Mile.

All the Inns upon the Dover Road have raised the price of Posting to 1s 5d. per Mile, except the COUNTY HOTEL, Rochester (late the "King's Head Inn")

The Public are particularly cautioned against believing the Innkeepers upon the Dover Road, as they resort to every deception to prevent persons going to the "County Hotel," and have informed an infamous coalition to ruin the House, because the Posting is not advanced.
