DARTFORD AND THE VALE OF DARENTH.

NEW APPLICATION FOR LICENSE.

Edmund Barber, landlord of the "Crooked Billet" beershop, Picardy, in the parish of Erith, made application for a spirit license.

Mr. Gibson attended on behalf of applicant.

The grounds of this application went to show that the house was situated on the public road leading from Greenwich, Woolwich, and Plumstead, to Erith, and was distant nearly half-a-mile from any other licensed house; that some years ago a licensed house, then known by the sign of the "Crooked Billet," stood near the spot, but had since been pulled down; that the licensed house on Erith Marshes, called the "Chequers," has lately been taken possession of by the officers of her Majesty's War Department for public purposes; and that, therefore, the house, if licensed, would be a great accommodation to the locality.

The Bench granted the application.
