The pub changed name from the "Kentish Yeoman" some time between 2009 and 2012, and again to the "Lion of Kent" after a local man, Alfred Mynn, who in his day was one of the country’s greatest cricketers. The Lion of Kent was his nickname and he became a (secret) professional when amateurism in sport was the norm. His grave is in the churchyard in nearby Thurnham. The pub continued with that name and closed in August 2018 but opened again the following year as the "Yeoman."
