I am informed that the pub with this name became the "Sawyers Arms," but as yet do not know when the change happened or indeed how old the premises is.

It has also been suggested that the pub had this name as Sawyers used to work there and perhaps that was the sound made by the old saws in action. Then again, perhaps this was just a name used locally and the premises was always called the "Sawyers Arms" officially.

The original pub was a beer house which closed in c.1908 and was demolished soon afterwards. The site was redeveloped and the "Sawyers Arms" was opened circa 1910.

Kelly's Directory gives a Mrs Hannah Cheesman as licensee but unfortunately no definite address, and her husband was a dairyman.
