In 1841 Princes Plain (or Rushy Road as it was sometimes called) housed a Brewery owned by J A Jones who lived in Pembury House during the period 1874 to 1883 and which is still in existence and is used as a hostel at present. Jones and his partner Venness gave up the Brewery which was a large four-storey building with huge chimney and many outbuildings.

Annual licensing day.

The licence of William Pawley, of the "Brewery Tap," Bromley Common, was suspended for three weeks, the conviction having been proved for selling beer during the hours of divine service.
