I have reference to a "Crown" in Burgate Street of which Stephen Watts appears as licensee in 1838.

 

Kentish Gazette, 23 June, 1779.

Elisha Tibbs, (from the "Crown" in High Street), having opened the "Crown," in St. Peters Street, Canterbury, as a public house, and fitted it up in a genteel manner for the reception of company, returns his sincere thanks to those Ladies and Gentlemen who have employed him in the Post Chaise Business, and humbly solicits the continuance of their Favours, which he will endeavour to Merit by his Assiduity and Care.

Post Chaise at nine pence a mile, with able horses; waiting jobs on reasonable terms.
