The Eagle brewery had stopped producing by 1889 and had transformed into Holdens mineral manufactory and J.D. Maxted's Creameries, so I would assume they had no need for the Tap. However, the premises continued to sell beer under the name of the "Duke of York," and I assume it would have changed name shortly after 1889.

Kelly's directory of 1903 gives the address as number 22 Ivy Lane, but this unfortunately looks like it has been demolished, number 21 being next door and still standing.

INQUEST ON A BABY.

The City Coroner (Dr. T. S. Johnson) held an inquest on Saturday evening at the "Duke of York," Ivy Lane, Canterbury, touching the death of Sidney Arthur, the five month old child of Thomas and Sarah Ann Pellatt.

Thomas Pellatt, a groom, in the employ of Mr. Dunkin, of St. George's Terrace, deposed that he lived at 19, Chantry Lane.

The deceased was laid up on Tuesday. A doctor was sent for on Friday but the child died before his arrival.

The deceased was insured in the Prudential Insurance Company.

Sarah Ann Pallatt, wife of the last witness corroborated, and added that she fed the child on condensed milk and biscuits.

Mr. Brian Rigden, surgeon, stated that he was called to see the deceased about seven o'clock on the previous evening. He went at once but on his arrival the child was dead. It had apparently been dead a very few minutes. The child was in a very emancipated condition, but there were no marks of violence. The child had had convulsions, which was undoubtedly caused by insufficient feeding.

In answer to the Coroner witness stated that the child was no doubt delicate from birth. It was a child that might waste. Milk was a right thing to give to the child, but he did not agree with feeding it on biscuits.

The Coroner summed up, and the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.

The Inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was present at the inquest.
