Originally the a temperance hotel known as the "Shaftsbury Hotel" which in 1963 was known as the "Channel Hotel," but as yet I do not know when the name changed. This later became the "Gateway Hovertel" which I do know held a drinks license, at present and I am told the "Channel Hotel" had a small bar in the basement.
