Originally the "Shaftsbury Hotel" a temperance hotel, in 1963 it went under the name of the "Channel Hotel" but ended up as the "Gateway Hovertel" and closed in 2005. This being then close to the Hoverport it was ideal for those waiting for their crossings.

It was apparently just closed up with everything in situ and just left to decline, and eventually circa 2009 it was finally demolished.
