PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1750-

Quex New Inn

Latest 1802+

(Name to)

Birchington

Not to be confused for the other "New Inn" which I believe is situated on the other side of the Square. I believe this pub changed name to the "Powell Arms" some time between 1802 and 1836. Reference has been found regarding a pub titled the "Quex new Inn," so perhaps it was previously occupied and run by someone with the name of Quex. However, Rory Kehoe says the following:- ! The Powells were the local landowners and their house was and still is, called Quex Park. Now houses the Powell-Cotten Museum of natural history.

From the Kentish Gazette or Canterbury Chronicle, Wednesday, 24 August to Saturday, 27 August, 1768. Price 2d.
