This is one of Wethspoons that doubles as a hotel. It boasts 13 rooms, all with en suite bathroom, Freeview television and unlimited free Wi-Fi in every digitally temperature controlled room.

The pub is named after the author of the book the Ingoldsby Legends, or Mirth and Marvels. This is a collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poetry written supposedly by Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor. This was actually a pen-name of an English clergyman named Richard Harris Barham (1788-1845). They were first printed in as a series for a magazine called "Bentley's Miscellany" in 1837 and later in the "New Monthly Magazine."

The "Jackdaw" at Denton was renamed from the "Red Lion" in 1962 after his poem titled "Jackdaw of Rheims," in honour of Richard Harris Barham who lived in that village.
