Latest 1869

Slade Green Road

Slade Green

Above ordinance Survey map 1863. The area bordered yellow has nothing to do with the pubs shown but was from some other research by another person.

I am informed by Jim Packer that the rate book for this establishment stared in April 1845, so that was probably the start of business.

His son George appears to have taken over by 1861 but the pub was forced to close in 1869 due to the new Wine and beerhouse Atc of 1869.

The building was still shown to be standing on the 1933 Ordinance Servey Map but was not there on the 1962 version.

I do have another "Woodman" addressed in Bexley Heath.

Maidstone Journal & Kentish Advertiser. 27 February 1865.

Henry Francis, and Henry Fisher were charged with assaulting Mrs. Maria Moreton, landlady of the "Cherry Gardens" beer house, Bexley Heath, on Saturday, February 18th.

This case was of such a trumpery nature that the Bench dismissed it.
