I have reference to another "Woodman" addressed in Slade Green. I have also seen this one addressed as is Barnhurst.

It is suggested by Jim Packer that the pub was previously called the "Cherry Tree" or the "Cherry Gardens" and had changed name to the "Woodman" by 1871 as shown in the census.

Derelict Bexleyheath pub The Woodman to be knocked down to make way for flats and bungalows.

Woodman 2014

The Woodman in Watling Street closed down in April last year after suffering from poor levels of trade.

Developers W H Brakspear and Sons applied to build a part two-storey, part three-storey block of five one bedroom flats and a pair of two bedroom bungalows.

The plans include a communal garden area and seven parking spaces – one for each unit.

Five letters of objection were received by Bexley Council, including one from the Bexley Civic Society.

Concerns included the proposed flats would be too tall for surrounding properties and a "valued community facility" would be lost, along with an existing building which is part of the "historic street scene".

But Bexley Council's planning committee voted the development through unanimously at a meeting yesterday.

As you can see from above the building was demolished in December 2014 and replaced with more flats by September 2015.

I have just added this pub to that list but your help is definitely needed regarding it's history.

As the information is found or sent to me, including photographs, it will be shown here.

Thanks for your co-operation.
