PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1869-

Baloon

Latest 1869+

Belvedere

No idea exactly where this was located unfortunately, and 1869 may have been the last of this beer house after the licensee ended his life by hanging himself in the outhouse.

Maidstone Telegraph, Saturday 12 June 1869.

At 7 on Monday morning, Mr. Budd landlord of the "Balloon" beer house, Belvedere was found by his son Edward hanging in an outhouse on the premises.

On the morning in question the deceased got up about 5 o'clock and called his son, who told him it was too early to get up, on which deceased got in bed again, and his son went to sleep, and on awakening missed his father, who he found hanging as stated.

(Mr Budd appears to have been licensee of the "Belvoir" at the same time, although I do not know what the connection between the two houses is.)
