Originally known as the "Breakspeare Arms" the pub closed its doors in 1994 but reopened again as is a Wetherspoons pub, in 2000. The name given due to its location being near the nearby Croyden Canal.

Plan for flats at Brockley Barge Wetherspoons pub.

A Wetherspoons in Brockley is hoping to transform its appearance to provide nine new flats.

Brockley Barge plans

The Brockley Barge was built in 1868 and the structure of the building could completely change if Lewisham Council approves the plans.

Developers say the building would remain as a pub with customers having more space.

Wetherspoons want to expand the public area on the first floor and create three new floors at the rear of the pub and above the beer garden for the flats.

A new area for punters on the first floor with access to the terrace is also mentioned in the planning application.

On the second floor of the pub is where toilets and office space for staff would be.

Brockley Barge plans

The pub used to be called the "Breakspear" before JD Wetherspoons took over in the 1990s.
