Buckland Dover
Joe Harman found reference to this pub situated between what was once Buckland School and Buckland Bridge. The houses had some bricks on them dated 1808, so that is probably when they were built and have connections to the local brickmaking trade that went on in the area. Joe goes on to say that one of these houses is probably that of shoemaker and beer house keeper, Richard Pay who was identified as the "Chequers" in 1841, as the door sills apparently show signs of being hollowed out by barrels being dragged through them. I also have reference to a "Chequers" addressed as Snargate Street.
