Brompton Road Gillingham
Originally built in 1948 as the NAAFI Club for Navy, Army, and Air Force people, it later became the "Aurora Hotel" in the 1960s. Later in the 1980s, the premises changed into a nightclub known as "Excalibur." Whilst in its heyday this venue was hosts to such groups and artists as The Troggs (9 September 1968). David Bowie performed here on the 31st of October, having come straight from another gig at the "General Gordon" in Gravesend, where it is said he was booed off stage after singing an acoustic version of Space Oddity and reading a number of poems. The club finally closed in 1988.
