Kentish Gazette, 6 January 1852.

Sevenoaks. Fatal Accident.

On Christmas-day, about nine o'clock in the morning, a man named Thomas Walter, in the employ of Mr. Penn, farmer, at Under River, was out with his brother John, sparrow shooting; the latter, while putting a cap on the nipple of a double-barrelled gun, by some means pulled the trigger belonging to the other barrel, when the contents were lodged in the first named man's thigh, just above the knee. The immediate loss of blood was very great, before medical aid could be procured; he lingered on until about ten o'clock in the evening, when he expired, leaving a wife and two children. An inquest was held on Saturday, at the "Cock" public-house, before J. N. Dudlow, Esq., coroner, and a respectable jury, when a verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned.
