I have only found the one reference to this at present, and unfortunately do not have a definite address, but the prosecution details were from just after another case that was regarding the "Crown and Anchor" in Sheerness. However, the only Sergeant Ovenden I know of from around this date was located in the Folkestone area.

Sheerness Guardian 1 October 1859.

PETTY SESSIONS.

Monday, September 18th, 1859. Present, the Rev. J. Poore, D.D.; W. Bland, Esq,; and J. D. Dyke, Esq.

Mr. Joseph Sansom, was summoned for keeping his house the "Hampshire Arms," open for the sale of beer, on Sunday morning, September 4th, at quarter before 11 o'clock.

Sergeant Ovenden deposed that at the time mentioned, he saw two men come out of the back yard of the "Hampshire Arms," and on entering the house, found two inside. There was a wet mark on the counter the size of the bottom of a quart pot, and on looking behind the counter he found a quart pot standing on the floor about half full of fresh drawn beer, which Mr. Sansom's daughter stated was drawn by her child and not for sale.

The magistrates dismissed the case.
