Latest 1663+

Deal

Farthing token 1663

Above showing both side of the farthing token stamped THOMAS POTTER around a shield of the Grocer's Arms. The reverse stamped IN DEALE 1663 and the letters P over T M.

This may have been for use in an inn but not necessarily so, it would have been more likely for a Baker's shop.

I have reference to a Moyses Potter at a similar "Baker's Arms" who may have been related.

The Arms shown could just be a Guild Crest and not Arms as is public house, as these tokens were popular for both types of establishments during the mid 17th century, and were used to pay for goods in the premises named.
