I am still not convinced that the building on this site was called just the "Castle," although one previous to that could have been I suppose.

I was informed the original pub in Ewell Minnis called the Castle Inn was just round the corner from where the now closed Newcastle Inn stands.

The "Castle" burnt down around the turn of the 20th century, (recent evidence has proven this to be just before 1913 and prior to that date the original pub was also known as the "New Castle" pre 1882,) but a new pub was built adjacent to the remains of the old one in not 1902 as first suggested but in 1913 and named the "New Castle Inn". A map of 1913 shows the original location to be an empty plot in this year.

I am still hoping for more information on this one.

I believe I now have proof that this has always been called the "Newcastle" and not the "Castle," as I have traced the original building back to 1869 and it was definitely called the "Newcastle" then.
